Hi folks, I need some advice before it’s to late to change my order. I ordered my Macbook Pro yesterday with the 17” HD “glossy” screen. Did I make a mistake? Which screen will give the best image for editing then printing, anti glare or glossy? I do plan on calibrating no matter which one I end up with.

matte screen is better for photo editing. the glossy screen makes it difficult to evaluate saturation as the glossy screen will artificially boost. Also, the glossy screen shows reflections making it a bit tougher on photo editing.

I have a MBP with a matte screen and am quite happy.

I was in the same situation recently, I changed mine to matte. My wife already had the glossy screen. Its great for movies and viewing photos. Definitely not as good for photo editing or viewing anything around windows with the sun shining in.

After changing my order (or canceling & reordering) the ship date for the hi-res matte was sooner than had I stayed with the original hi-res glossy display.

Don't sweat it though either will please you. But if your having buyers remorse, get the matte. Most of the displays in the Apple stores are matte due to the bright lights in the store.

Another one for matte.
You could try getting a matte cover protector and see if that makes a difference.
Either way, kick-ass choice!

Glossy works great as a mirror.

All mine machiones are matte. I swore by glossy for a couple years but have since learned it sucks for editing photos, especially out in the field.

Matte for me, too. But the biggest issue is that the panel is a 6-bit TN (as are all laptops, Mac and PC). You'd be better off with the 15" model, then pick up a nice 8-bit external display (e.g., S-IPS).

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Thanks for the replies. I agree that the matte is the best choice. Unfortunately Apple store is “Much” quicker with orders than the Alienware or Dell’s I have. By the time I got home from work today the order was shipped. I did talk to a rep which was very helpful. I can return it and place a new order if I choose to. I’m thinking that’s what I’ll end up doing. On the bright side, I placed the order Tue of this week and the first of the software arrived today, more for delivery Fri, and it looks like the laptop and ipod Mon or Tue of next week. Great service indeed!

I think laptop are a little different then desktops as you can move it around and get a good spot with no reflections. You'll be happy I'm sure.

I would go this way too ... I have been researching and that was my conclusion. I have a great S-IPs display already so I would prefer smaller/portable and then plug the laptop in at home. I used Macs for years and debating whether the hassle of the change back is worth it financially given I have all the software I need on PC. I know it is worth it in other ways.

Glossy won't be too bad as long as you're not in sunlight or control the reflections.

Im just going to guess, being that it is a laptop and probably meant for travel away from home, being in control of reflections will not always be an option :)
