Very cool! I tried to get invited to a match in LA but never was asked to attend. Overall I think you did a great job, were you able to use a flash? What equipment did you use and what were your settings? did you get any blood or other 'fluids' on yourself or camera?

Last one could use some dave hill action on it...

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Thanks.

No, I never use a flash. Available lighting is the rule when shooting MMA.

Equipment: Those shots were taken with the Canon XTi and the 40D, some with a used Tamron lens, some with a used 35mm prime.

Blood is a part of shooting combat sports. Yeah, I've been bled on a little, but it's usually in boxing, since they pour water over the guys heads between rounds in the corner.

what type of a set-up do you use?

I shoot a lot of mma also.

I shot one event for mmaweekly.com and they were real impressed but it's real hard to find work with them. sherdog.com also liked my work but they have their own photographers and they've never needed yet either. Any advice?

Thanks,
Mike

Thank you.

miggetymike- Set-up... I'm not sure what you mean.

The quality of my work leads many to believe that I'm a professional photographer, and that's a bit misleading. I'm not a professional; I'm a semi-professional. I do get paid, but not enough to make a living at this, at least for the time being.

My advice... get paid! To be honest, MMA is relatively new in the sports world, and the only sport I've ever covered. I don't follow any recognized standard of how I conduct business, I just know what my time and efforts are worth to me, and base my business decisions accordingly.

Let's see your pics!

Do you always have to shoot through the fence or there's a media opening that everyone stand together?

Sorry, I'm new here. I meant what kind of equipment do you use for mma.

I'll post some pics in the sports forum in a couple of minutes. I'll put mma in the title. Check 'em out!

Most of the events I go to, I am the "media". And yes, aside from the victory shots I take, I shoot through the cage. It wasn't easy at first, but I've become used to it.

If I were to choose an 11th shot, this would be it:
