Hi all,

I noticed on the Lensmate site they are listing the Optech Cam Strap-QD for use on the G9/G7. It has a quick disconnect link, which makes me wonder how secure that connection would be. Anyone have experience with this strap, or recommend another one (or more) to consider?

I'm using the Canon neck strap that came with the G9, and that has some utility for me. However, I'm used to using a small digital camera with a wrist strap.

Here's the Optech link displaying the strap, and another without the quick disconnect.

thanks,
Dennis

I just ordered this strap for my G9.

I am not a fan of the neck strap for a camera of this size, and would prefer having some sort of strap for use on a boat of simply to protect it in case of an accidental drop.

I'll let you know what I think when I get it.

Cam101,

Thanks, I'll wait and see on whether I order this one or another. I understand the drop protection issue, because I dropped my A620 last year when I wasn't using the wrist strap. That was a $100 lesson.

I have the QD and it seems quite secure. The loop that goes over your wrist is a little thick for my liking, but that is the only downside I have found about the strap.

Thanks, I was wondering about the thick strap. I kind of prefer the thinner strap, like on my A620, but it does not have a method to tighten around my wrist.

I'm using the Prostrap with my G9. It feels nice and secure -- it also smells like a new pair of shoes! You can get several styles and colors.

Nice looking set up, but even larger strap size. I'll have to think about whether I really want it that large. It certainly looks like "security" is emphasized. I would definitely like the black, and not the pink.

I also haven't decided to get the "grip" everyone seems to need. I'm finding the "default" setup is fine for now. However, I do find my fingerprints ending up on the LCD a lot from putting the camera into and out of my little camera bag. The "grip" may eliminate that problem. I'm still waiting for a Boxwave LCD protector to arrive. The 3" LCD is so much more open to scratches, etc., than my A620 with the articulating LCD. They ran out when I ordered (3/27), and promised to ship by yesterday. The G9 model is suddenly very popular.

Looks like a nice option. I'm using the wrist strap that came with my Canon A75 on my G9. The A75 only very rarely sees use anymore, so it just goes strapless. :)

Hi,

What's the length of the strap? And is it adjustable? For example 8" to 15" long.

Thanks

Thanks,

My A620 was taken over by my wife, so she is keeping the wrist strap on it. We stopped fighting over who gets to use the camera. I think I got the better deal. :-)

Hi,

Thanks

The strap includes the leather portion and the string portion that connects it to the camera. The leather portion is about 7.5 inches in length, and the string portion adds another 2.5 inches, making the total length about 10 inches. The length of the strap is not adjustable, but there is a metal slider on the thinner portion of the strap that moves back and forth (you can see it in the photo). Moving this slider allows the strap to cinch around your wrist.

They make other styles, including a detachable strap. Look at the website I posted and you'll see. Lots of colors too. Yippee skippee!
