I hate to start 2 threads in the same 5 minute period, but I just got around to taking some photos of the first Blurb book I ordered and I thought it might be a good thing to post here. I'm not sure if this is the right place for it, but if it isn't, I couldn't find the right place... so please move it. :)

I just ordered my second book today. The book I'm posting below is 7"x7" hardcover. It seemed like it would be tiny, but it's a really nice size. Today, I ordered a 76 page 10"x8" book. The quality is superb for the price, IMO. Everyone who sees the book is quite impressed.

The photos I took of it are terrible. The colors are actually correct. It was hard to keep it standing on end, but you'll get an idea. I do find their layout software quite limiting, but not so limiting that I would bother doing my own layouts for every page (though I would if it were for someone other than me).

Cool. My 370 page book chronicling every day of my daughter's first year of life shipped out today from Blurb. I can't wait to get it. I'm more excited than when I order new camera gear. :)

BTW your book looks great, I hope mine comes out as nice.

I saw the Blurb piece onthe Today Show and downloaded the software. I am working on my first book. I am happy to hear that the quality and size of the smallest book is well worth the money. Are you using this as a marketing tool for your business or is this strictly for private use?

Nope, not for business. Just for personal use. My second book is scheduled to arrive on Friday. I'd take some pics of that one, but it doesn't seem that too many are interested in these books. I wonder if it's because there is a better quality solution out there in blurb's price range.

I hope someone will chime in if that's the case.

Wow... Looks really nice...

How much was the book (if you don't mind)? How long did it take to lay the pictures out and get the order in? And then how long did it take to arrive after you ordered it?

I might have to get a few of these... Seems like a neat way to display and preserve photos.

I plan to make one of my sons pics over the course of his first year. I do not take photos every day like the person above but at least once a week to show progress. Nice gift for the grandparents.

I made a Blurb book of my Alaska eagle trip and it was a big hit with friends and family. I found their software somewhat clunky, but I understand they've come out with a new version so hopefully that will be an improvement. My book was only about 40 pages but it took me forever to put together!

The price depends on the number of pages and the binding. Their pricing page is here: http://www.blurb.com/book/pricing (external link)

With their software, it does take quite a while to put it all together. It's hard to know how the software will crop things and how the image will fill the space until you set up the page. The first one I did took me a few days of coming back and looking at it. The second took about 4-6 hours, I'd say. The more I think about it, the more I think I'll make my own layouts in the future.

It took them a few days to process the order and print the book. I think 3-5 days including weekends. Unfortunately for me, they're on the west coast, so it takes a while for them to get to me. My last book shipped on Monday and it'll be here on Friday.
