Am I therefore correct in assuming that the noise reduction functions by way of extrapolating pixles, in a fassion similar to dithering?

I was wondering why some of my properly lighted shots seemed pixilated... I need to find the time to play around with it, but if this is the culprite, I will be disabling the feature immediatly.

I was under the impression that the only drawback was a reduced drive mode speed, but since i do not shoot RAW, nor do i wish to get involved in heavy post processing at this time, from your statement, i think i would still be better off putting up with the noise.

NR essentially is blurring

I'm pushing the peaks of the white to the right, using a factor derived from the white histogram to allow using my palm as a substitute to find the exposure.
This is NOT the same as Expose to the right, a whole different thing entirely.
