Take a photo and zoom in to 100% and see if you have any lines across the image. If you do, then yes it is messed up.

You want to be very careful when cleaning the sensor. Granted the first time is probably the scariest and it gets easier after that, but I will leave that to someone else, which I have yet to do.

Are you sure it was the sensor or did you just clean the mirror? (I only ask because I see your name).

The other you see is the viewfinder screen. That one does move, because it is completely removable and replaceable.

I decided not to victimize my camera, and I took it to my camera store. They cleaned it out for $60.00. I was happy and the camera was happy too!

By talking with you via IM, you only wiped the mirror. That will only affect what you see through the viewfinder. The final image will not be harmed.

I recommend this:

Have a read of this:

I used a rocket blower first and anything it can't blow out I used the sensor swabs.

I use a combination of Dust Aid (for dry stuff) and Sensor Swabs for anything greasy / oily.

Try Lens and Shutter - their branch here in Victoria stocks them - and the fluid.

They also carry Dust-Aid - it's a no-no, but I use it anyway (I read AND follow directions;)).

I got mine from Beau Photo. It's close to the entrance to Granville Island.
It was about $25 for 2 swabs and a bottle of the solution.

Those spots are pretty minor. I downloaded the pic and adjusted the brightness, then cranked the contrast way up. Still pretty minor.

Shooting at f/22 will enhance the spots - I suspect that if you shoot at a more normal aperture of f/8 or f/11 you won't see them...

Looks clean to me. Did you stop down to f22? That's where you will see it all.

I'm with six, your spots are easy to clone out even if it is visible at the smaller apertures. I'd wait and get the swabs that everyone here is recommending you get and don't ever use the microfiber tissue again to wipe your sensor, be glad you didn't scratch it. Sensor cleaning is not hard, but it is like most things, the moment you turn the respect for the job down a bit you will do something foolish that will have you kicking yourself for the $300+ bill to replace the filter. In a few more weeks it will get a lot more sensor boogers, and that's when you can spend ~$10 a swab...

It wasn't the sensor that I ended up wiping (thank god), I just wiped the 2 mirrors, the viewfinder.

Oh...dude, that's worse, don't mess with the silvered mirror nor the focus plate, they both scratch very easily. Albeit it is fairly cheap and easy to replace the focus plate, but the mirror, that's probably more expensive than the darn sensor filter. It won't show up on your pictures...The only reason to clean it would be if you AF is acting up, but even then I would have Canon do it or some "professional", so you can sue their professional butts if they mess it up.
