I have come up empty trying to find the slide/negative trays for my epson 3200 scanner. I was hoping they were in the box but they are not. I dont want to send the hundreds if not thousands of my late fathers slides out to be scanned, $$$$$$$. So I was searching ebay and found a few inexpensive scanners but not sure if i'de buy them. I did a google on one of them and it is beeing sold on national geographic's site.

Should I bite the bullet and just get it on ebay since its a little cheaper or look elsewhere?

how does that work? you need to attach to your own lens or does that go straight onto the camera?

i saw an HP slide/film scanner on ebay, i googled that and new it was like $130. Would it be more worth while looking at that?

I bought a Plustek Optifilm 7200 scanner and have found it excellent.

They aren't dirt cheap but if you have lots of 35mm negs or slides or are still shooting 35mm like me then it is well worth the price.

It's no good for medium format though, just does 35mm negs up to 6 frames long and mounted or loose slides.

Bottom of the page you buy a t2 adapter for your camera -you dont use a lens with it .

I'm not sure what inexpensive is defined as because I paid 219.00 for an epson off Amazon and that seemed cheap to me.

My old scanner is a HP Photosmart S520 and it is no longer supported under Windows Vista, so I'd give away that one if one if I knew someone locally who could use it. Now there is a cheap scanner!

the problem with the one you saw on eby is the time it take's to do a full hi IQ scan copied from there site (Interface: USB 2.0
Technology: Colour CCD image sensor
Hardware Resolution: 7200 x 7200 dpi
Dmax: 3.5
Max. scanning area: 36.8 x 25.4 mm (1.45 "x 1") *
Preview Speed: 6.25 sec (positive film), 8.72 sec (negative film) without calibration
Scan Speed: Approx. 87 sec (3600 dpi), 226 sec (7200 dpi) for colour slide
Hardware Multi-Exposure on negative film: Yes )
THE ONE i showed you once set up you just take a pic with your camera so its far quicker .

I don't think, from the specs, that the T-mount adapter will let you get more than 40% of your 35 mm slide or neg. on a crop DSLR; you'd need a 5D or 1Ds to get a full slide in (it captures at 1:1 to 2:1).

If a film scanner of adequate (1200 dpi native is a minimum) resolution isn't available, go for a dual-purpose scanner unless you're willing to pay $500 or more.
