I had it connected to my bracket with my 580ex and it came off and snapped the one side off that slides into the receptor on the top of the bracket.

Has anyone ever heard of a shoe chord that has a metal connection for the end the connects to the flash....it would be more durable one would think.

I just looked at B&H and found this, Canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord (external link): does anyone know if this has a metal construction for the foot (attaches to the top of the bracket)

It does not have a metal construction (I have an OC-E3) but I understand it is more substantial than the foot the OC-E2 had.I have not had an OC-E2 so I can't compare them directly but I have read that somewhere. (There is metal on the foot of the adapter part that goes directly in you camera's hot shoe.)

Here's a comparison of them:

Thanks....yeah, the part that snapped off attaches to the shoe on the bracket.

Just screw it directly to the bracket.

I should have thought of what Curtis said because that's how I attach mine! I wasn't thinking there.

The breakaway nature is deliberate...far better to replace a relatively lower cost cord which you can buy in any Canon store, than to have to send in your flast to Canon repair facility and lose its use for weeks.
