Another example of someone supposedly 'world' famous...

To be fair, the title of the thread is, "Who is the most famous person you photographed?" To that end, my wife is more popular than I and my friends so she would qualify.

It's my life and I'll get pissed if I want to.

But, popular isn't "Famous".

Someone 'Famous' should be recognisable to a majority of people...hence the term famous...

A majority of whom?

Famous:
Merriam-Webster: widely known.
Random House Webster's Unabridged: having a widespread reputation, usually of a favorable nature; renowned; celebrated.

You may notice that there is no mention of a 'majority' in those definitions, and 3.75 billion people would be quite a lot to ask for.

There is also no mention of 'world famous' in the title, so local fame (the condition of being known or talked about by many people, especially on account of notable [notable: worthy of attention or notice; remarkable.] achievements -no 'majority' there either) should be enough to satisfy the title.

And who the heck is/was Michael Stipe R.E.M. in the original post? Q.E.D.

The mayor of my town is the most famous person I have photographed, but I an sure he isn't known to most people even in my state, let alone the rest of the country or the world. But I don't think that means that posting photo in this thread would be unacceptable.

This is exactly right.

There are a great number of people in this thread that I have no clue who they are. But, here again, the title of this thread is 'the most famous person that YOU have photographed'. So, if any given person is famous to you and you photographed them then you can post them here.

Agreed, and that was the point of my reply. "Most famous" leaves a lot of room.

For the purpose of this thread, I imagine 'famous' carries the inference that somebody on this forum (other than the person posting the picture) would or should, have heard of this person (or have SOME idea who they are)...

Maybe we post pics without names, and let the forum decide if they are famous...?

Excuses, excuses! Next you'll say you can't see enough of the reporter to know how famous she is.

I'm guessing the handbag gave it away?
