I visit the marketplace section just like most people here do, so I have an idea of what lenses are suppose to cost. What would everyone think of a list of all the Canon/Sigma/Tamron/etc lenses, and maybe camera bodies as well. Have a low/medium/high prices depending on condition and what the lens comes with (box/filters/hood). It could be updated every couple of months or something.

Just a thought. :)

sounds like a scary amount of work to maintain O_o

i think it should just be board policy to NOT delete the price of an item after it has been sold.

The other issue is that the seller may post a price in the thread. However, that may not be the sell price. Many times there is some negotiations taking place by PM and will not be made publicly available.

And you don't want any part of that.

Or if someone is desperate to get rid of it they sell it cheap and what about trades? Way too many variables man, but if you want to do it, have at it .

You'd have to make different price lists for different geographical locations too. The prices in Austrailia, NZ, Canada, US, HK and even within Europe the prices vary from country to country. It'd be a lot of work for whoever does it.

A bargain 2nd hand price here in CZ would be a fair bit more than a new price in the US for example.

Yep so I would say a list like this would be a waste of time because it would take up way too much work to keep it updated.

Crap, I never thought of that. I was just thinking of Canada/US prices, but that wouldn't really be fair would it.

When I want to check "real world" equipment prices I go over to ebay.com, click "advanced search" and tick off the "completed listings only" box (you'll have to log in to use the advanced search but creating an account is very easy). The advanced search will show what that particular item has been going for recently. That's handy to know whether you're buying or selling.
