[/B]Hello everyone! I am new to this site and new to photography! I hope you all don't mind a newbie joining in. I have a ton of questions! I will start with this:

Can anyone recommend a good book that can introduce me to the world of RAW use and conversion?

I have the 40d-- I just purchased it a couple of weeks ago so if you also can recommend a good book that easily and clearly explains different settings and their use, that would be super!

I am somewhat lost and there is too much on the net about these subjects so I was hoping that the seasoned people here could lend me hand?

Thanks--;)

I got a free chapter of THIS BOOK (external link) free in a magazine. Its aimed at the beginner and I have one of his other books and he's very good.

I also recommend "Understanding Exposure," since you are new to photography.

Hi, BlueBlue,

I am green too.:p
The folks here suggested Brian Peterson's books. I finished reading "Understanding Exposure", "Understanding Digital Photography" and just started on "Beyond Portraiture".

I also just finished reading "Canon EOS 40D" by David Busch. This one is much more detailed than the owner's manual that came with the camera. I understand my camera a little better now, but I'm still a bit intimidated by my camera. :D

See if you can find the Magic Lantern Guide for your camera - if it's out yet. In all honesty, I've never looked for one for the 40D, but there should be one. They go into more detail than the manual, and it's in slightly plainer English. It'll help when you read the other books recommended.

Oh, and feel free to ask questions!

Good luck!

Looking for tips, comments, critique, and in general help! :D

pitimpinai,

Thanks! I am glad you mentioned that there is an actual book dedicated to the 40D because frankly, the manual is useless to me. I need more detail and clarification and such.

I am trying to finish up the books I am currently reading (non-photography) so I can dive into some of the books everyone has mentioned. ;)
