First HS Girls LAX POST

The day started with a massive amount of rain. An hour before the game it stoped. It was really dark out so they turned on the field lights. I shot M mode but should have been playing with the exposure a little. every time I would pan the exposure would change.

This was rally the first time I shot a LAX game. Please C&C Thanks, Paul

The action looks good, focus fine on 2,3,4.
1,2,3. Look to be under exposed...could you have gone to a higher ISO?

Sure I could have bumped up the ISO - Next time I I will give that a try. How do you handle the change in lighting when Panning the field? Is it better to have some of your photos overexposed or underexposed?

To handle the changes in lighting, try shooting in aperture control or shutter control modes. Probably aperture control since the scene looks fairly dark and you want the highest shutter speed possible. Set the aperture to wide open and the camera will make any adjustments to exposure.

If it was a brighter scene you could go to shutter control and set it for the speed you want, to reduce motion blur, and then you will get the right aperture.

If the background changes, say from light at one end and dark at the other, your better to use manual exposure and take your reading from the players rather than let the background influence your exposure.

What I think you did a good job is the facial expressions. Especially, since they are wearing masks or head gears. I've tried to do that with football and haven't had good success.

I was going to comment on the masks. Is that normal in the US? I've only seen full helmets around here.

I am from the US and I have NEVER seen these before this thread. They are definitely...different​, and I wouldn't want to wear one.

Only women/girls wear goggles, men/boys wear helmets. Goggles were just made mandatory in Maryland about 4-5 years ago, before that women/girls were not required to wear any eye protection.
