I am a Rebel owner and now I'm interested in purchasing the 20D, but want to first make sure the lockup issues have been resolved.

I understand there are conflicting reports about this. Your feedback would be much appreciated.

Yes. They are done. I have not had any lockups on my 20D since I bought it.

I had one of the very first 20D's released with the 1.02 firmware, and I've never had a lockup. I'm still going strong with 1.04, and now 1.05 firmware. THis camera has been flawless so far (the canon raw software has not).
I noticed a huge dropoff in reported number of lockups since the 1.05 firmware, so I think the problem has more or less been solved.
Sure, there will always be one or two reports of lockups, but that happens even with the 300D, 10D, 1DMKII, and most digital cameras.

And people must remember that. We're basically using computers that are shaped like a 35mm camera with a lens attached. They will lockup from time to time.

Thanks for the quick replies so far. Someone told me today that the lockup issue doesn't always show up right away... that it can take months and lots of use before it happens. Has this been the case that you know of?

Thge new firmware seems to have resolved all issues. I had two lockups prior to the Firmware (easily resolved by popping the battery out and turning it back on)

I've had no issues since the firmware update.

There are half a dozen threads on this forum that will corroborate the fact that the lockup is a thing of the past.

Cool! Thank you! And I appologize for starting yet another thread... but was hoping to get a synopsis on this issue... which it seems I am getting. I appreciate it very much.

All good here and I have 2 20D's My first had the problem then I upgraded the firmware problem solved. Then I got my second 20D from dell with the old firmware guess what it locked up. Upgraded to the new firmware on the Dell 20D now no problems at all with both. Seem ok to me.

I'm not in the UK but I hope Canon listens to your appeal.

I'm sure there were dozens of lockups on the 300D, 10D, 1DMKII, D70, and other digicams around the world that were not reported.

You think? Maybe… It's never happened to my Rebel, although I have lost many a shot while waiting for the Rebel to process three in a row.

I have had lockups with every digicam I have ever used, be it a Canon dSLR or some P&S.

It happens, Reset it and get over it.

So what exactly happens when all of your cameras locked up? And what is the best way to reset it?
