No really, that's what it is called. First one I've managed to catch. They don't land but tend to hover just over/near the flower, for all of about 1sec and they are off again.

Guys, these are incredibly hard to get even half decent shots of, let alone this good. They generally don't stop at all, although I have seen one stop and perch on a branch for a few seconds before alighting for more flower/pollen hunting. As Greg has said, they don't land on the flower, but hover just above it. They basically use the vibrations from their wings to help loosen the pollen and make it easier to suck up. They are native to Australia and are gorgeous looking Bees. I've only seen 3 or 4 in real life, and they are lightning fast, at least as far as a Dragonfly imho.

Dave Thanks Dave, I shot this in a garden at Newfarm Park this arvo, right next to the PowerHouse arts centre. There were two of these buzzing about the hedge. I've spotted these guys once or twice before but never near enough that I could get a shot. Perpetual motion would describe they way the move. Greg

Next on the hit list is a Carpenter Bee - I've often seen them at Roma St parklands. Good luck, really hoping you get some great shots. I sitll have no idea where newfarm park is lol. I work @ Toowong, live @ Ipswich, don't have a car, and don't get out around the CBD much. All these great locations...

If you trained it to the city you could get a CityCat to Newfarm Park - maybe 15min on the river from the centre of the city. Thanks Bill Greg
