Opinions on the Canon 50mm Macro?

Subject pretty much says it all.

I like mine and I think it's a fantastic lens with the following exceptions:

1. Mine is a little soft wide open, so i need plenty of light to get sharp results.

2. Working distance from the lens is pretty short, so if your subject licks, bites, or stings think about a longer lens.

3. You can get only half life-size magnification without the life size converter, an expensive TC with no other apparent use.

I use mine primarily for copystand work, and for that it is excellent, but for most other uses, the 100mm macro is my choice.
