Hi, my dad is looking to get a new compact. We've looked at reviews on various sites(dppreview, cnet, etc.) but I was wondering if you guys had any personal experience with the cameras.

Also, importantly, the monitor on our PC is garbage so we can't do any real image comparisons(even a 40d makes bland and colorless images on it) so I was hoping you guys could help tell us how the image qualities stack up between the cameras.

Thanks for the help.

He ended up up going against my recommendations and getting an 1100IS. The thing seems to have few manual controls, There isn't even an option to set the ISO...

Thanks for all the help though  lol

Well, none of the SD models have any real manual controls. But if you look at Camera M mode, you should be able to set an ISO. See p. 222 of the manual.

Yep, apparently me without food after work makes me an idiot. One second with the thing this morning and I had it all figured out. I wish you could control aperture but, since I won't be using the camera, it doesn't really matter. It's got plenty of neat color options though.

I have to say, the IS is really effective as well. I took some more than usable handhelds at 1/4 sec.

It's a pretty nice little camera.
