We have a heron rookery right here in town along the Mississippi River. I visited this morning but unfortunately it's facing due east so I had to shoot straight into the sun. I might try again later today if the weather cooperates. There were at least a few dozen pairs of herons on this tiny island in the river, and they were continually flying around gathering sticks for their nests. It was really interesting to see. It was a nice sunny morning, but I had to blow out the sky to get any detail at all in the heron.

Very well done Liz, especially considering the less than ideal lighting. I cant wait until the GBH's start showing up around here.

I like this shot a lot! Even though the blown out sky ...one can still see the sun in it's beak.
