I traded my 24-70L for the 17-55 and LOVE it. Fantastic lens, especially for lower light photography. Then again, I held on to my Tammy to cover the longer side of the zoom.

You'll love your 17-55.

For the record, the 17-55 has more "L" quality glass in it than the 24-70. The 17-55 has 2 UD and 2 Aspherical elements, whereas the 24-70 has 1 UD and 2 Aspherical

I think most people who have this lens love it because of the tremendous optics, f/2.8 and IS, and consider that combination worth the money. The non-L build is really a non-issue, since there is no equivalent L lens out there, and if, say, Canon would produce a 17-40/17-55 f/2.8 IS L lenst it would be way more expensive than the EF-S lens.

Of course if they came up with the 24-70 f/2.8 IS L, I'd want to snatch it up and love it to pieces, but you'd be talking big bucks!

Enjoy the heck out of your lens!
