SD400 Viewscreen ok with video, black with pics

Dear Members,

My SD400 Viewscreen is black when I try to take pictures, but works fine when taking videos or reviewing pictures taken. The Menu icons are all visible on the black screen.

Any easy solution for this?

My sd400 lives with a friend since I upgraded. I'll try to check this out when I see her (and it) tomorrow, but I suspect it's what you already know - time for a new camera.
