First shots with 70-200 f/4L: Soccer

hello all this is my first outing with my first L lens! yay...how does the sharpness look on this? i deffinetly see an improvement over my 70-300 is USM of course but it still kinda looks a little soft?

Of course im looking for cc on the pp and framing etc thanks!

The first photo does look a little out of focus, but #2 looks tack sharp!

Apart from the misfocus in the first one, both are great shots - well timed and well composed. I've just started shooting my son's soccer matches with the same lens as well, and finding it's awesome when I can manage to get it right. 200mm equates to 'closest side of the field only' though.

I think the first one has suffered because the sun is on the girls back and the focus hasn't locked on properly as its struggling to find areas of contrast. The second is spot on, with the light on the subjects, a great shot.

Your first shot, AF caught the girl in front. Happens a lot, AF is imperfect.

Both shots need some post-processing.

Second is a cracker-sharp and sweet.

thanks for the feedback all! i was a little worried the first picture was the first one i pulled out of bridge and it looked soft so i was thinking my lens was front focusing. But i found the 2nd shot a couple of images down so im happy now. I think its official, ive caught "L Fever" bad news for my wallet.

What type of pp could they use? i did simple crop and a little adjustment with the exposure, curves adjustment and unsharp mask

Only thing I would say is #2 is a great shot, but your horizon is not straight. I feel like I am looking up hill when viewing the image.

yeah my horizons suffered this time because it was also my first time using a monopod...harder to adjust to than i thought....thats actually one thing ive been meaning to ask whats the best way to fix horizons in pp?
