Best Complete Lens Collection

I always thought this one would be fun to have:
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8
Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS
Tokina 50-135 f/2.8
Sigma 120-300 f/2.8
Sigma 200-500 f/2.8

So that's 11mm to 500mm covered at a constant f/2.8!

My ideal lineup is getting closer; I'm about to have the funds to get the 17-55. The lineup would be:
Canon 10-22 (check)
Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS (almost check)
Tokina 50-135 f/2.8 (waiting until the end of soccer - maybe football - season)
Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS (waiting for a few more paying gigs)
Sigma 50mm f/1.4 (waiting to feel the need to upgrade)
Canon 85mm f/1.8 (waiting for someday)

6 lenses, nothing to totally break the bank.... as long as I don't go FF.

I named my L glass Fantastic 4
35 1.4
85 1.2
135 2.0
200 2.0

But what should I call it when I get my 24 1.4 + 50 1.2

My Ideal line up would be:

35mm F1.4 + 85mm F1.2 + 135mm F2.0 + 100mm F2.8 (IS) Macro
24-105mm F4 IS + 70-200mm F4.0
24-70 F2.8 + 70-200mm F2.8 IS

I've always felt that what I had, whatever I have, is ideal....by which I mean, the setup that would best fit anyone, not just those with deep pockets...
so for now this is my ideal digital lineup:

Canon 18-55mm IS (what a bargain...better than the 24/35 Nikkors it replaced)
Vivitar 28/F2 (stuck at 2, but that's where I'd be using it)
Canon 35/2 (equal to the best of 50/2 lenses sold with 35mm SLRs)
Canon 50/2.5 CM (great for the occasional real close-up if not real macro)
Nikon 50/1.4 AIS (a perfect, maybe THE perfect crop/bod portrait lens @ under $125, or $25 if you're lucky.)
Nikon 50/2 (a nice compact/sharp...@ F2...travel lens)
Canon 70-210/3.5-4.5 (like the 18-55IS kit, a zoom for all occasions and at under $150, for all budgets)
Nikon 85/2 (it's the ideal compact for low light shooting....okay, after 20 years, I'd like to get my 85/1.8 back...larger/heavier and now I don't need the lighter F2)
NIkon 105/2.5 AIS (the classic, enough said)
Nikon 135/2.8 AI (well, AI optics, not cosmetics, so it was cheaper)
Nikon 180/2.8 P-C (AI optics, not cosmetics, so ditto)
Nikon 200/4 (the AIS would be nicer, (lighter, smaller) but this holdover from 1971 is still sharp)
Nikon 300/4.5 AI (not the ED but $200 less so what's to complain about when you're shooting such a lightweight compact 480mm crop @ 5.6)

The G3 with its 35mm equivalent 35-140/F2 is a very nice, if not ideal, walkaround.

That covers just about everything that I find myself photographing.

After buying and selling so much over the last couple of years here's what it's finally come down to, based upon how I like to shoot, what I tend to grab and by extensive reviewing of my keepers files.

To start with the MKIII, important to the lenses because it's 1.3 crop and this kit is designed for that.

85L 1.2
100 Macro 2.8 IS (coming)
24-70L 2.8
70-200L 2.8 IS
1.4x tele extender (wonderful wide open on the big zoom)
2x tele extender (startlingly good on the bigger zoom - got lucky)
2-12mm extension tubes

At times I think I've owned up to 6 lenses at a time, not sure but it's always seemed that I buy, I use for a while and then I sell, all on the list but the 100L macro that I don't have yet, have contributed to the largest files of keepers in my LR2 Library and lenses I know I can count on 100% every time, that's a good feeling and I hope it's the same with the macro.

Tomorrow I'm going up on Mt. Rainier to shoot scenics and the wildflowers and I'll take the two zooms, a polarizer and the 2x tele extender.

OM macro 50 f3.5 (fun, cheap/-)
17-40 L (size, weight, IQ/f4)
28-70 L (IQ/size, weight)
Voigtlander 125mm APO Lanthar f/2.5 SL Macro (IQ, Bokeh/weight)

VERY happy with these, especially 125mm rocks.
Long zooms are not my type. I prefer foot zoom.
