The first shot is nice. The second one seems to busy, to bad you did not take the shot a hair later, then you could crop closer and get the runner and fielder just before the play is over. I can't see a good way to crop #2, but #1 has great action and timing, well done.

Shooting at longer focal lengths will also give you better Bokeh...

Not bad for a first time, but like other people said, try to frame alot tighter. you bought that 50-500 for a reason right? When I had my XTi and was shooting sports, I was in TV or M most of the time. In daylight, you should be able to max out the SS which was 6000 if im correct.... Also, ISO 200, normally shade, cloudy WB.

One thing that helped me enormously though was switching to * focusing. It improved my keeper rate by atleast 40%.

Could not agree more with that last comment pro the * focusing is awesome. The next thing for we was to combine * with AI Servo allowing me to move from the static focus (One shot) of a batter to capturing fielders dive for catches and the like where I needed lots of luck on sigle shot focus now I get plenty of keepers....all basic stuff for many around here but very useful for me as a novis.

Hi there, like all I like the #1 but cannot really say more as I have never shot basebal...
From a general pov, are you happy with the Bigma? How is the AF?

Pro, I am quite curious because always looking for a way to increase my keeper rate. Could you explain me how this helped you? Was it the position of your hands that changed or something like that?

Thanks

Matthieu

I was shooting a small rock show over the weekend, and was trying to catch the drummers face. I was orignally in shutter focus mode, and the camera could never find his face. It was always going to the drums, or something else. I then switched to * focusing (cfn. 4,3) on my 1D, and it picked it up right away. It was also amazing that you could use FTM with out taking your finger off the shutter. I was using all focus points, and one shot. (I think)
I dont think it had anything to do my the positioning of my hands made any difference.
