Canon SD750 non responsive to shutter button sometimes

I recently purchased the SD750. It takes a great photo - when it takes the photo at all.

Often, I will depress the shutter button, only to find that nothing happens. It won't take the shot.

I try to prefocus by holding the button down halfway, but in times like this, nothing works.

I wonder if any of my settings could be causing this?

Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

What mode are you shooting in? Is it possible that your camera's not achieving focus?
