I had intended to purchase an IXUS 80 IS but with the announcement of the IXUS 85 IS, I'm uncertain what the difference are between these two models and which to purchase.

Based on the specs, it seems there are two minor differences between the models, sensors, lenses and the battery life

- The IXUS 80 IS has an 8MP 1/2.5" CCD whereas the IXUS 85 IS will have an 10MP 1/2.3" CCD.

- The IXUS 80 IS has a 38-114mm (35mm equiv.) lens whereas the IXUS 85 IS will have a 35-105mm (35mm equiv.) lens

I'm curious to know if this 1/2.3" sensor will be quite good, same noise level of the 1/2.5" sensor 7mp in the IXUS80 IS.

Can anyone expert in interpreting specs describe what the differences here might be?

Does the increased in the sensor size of the IXUS 85 IS make the increased MP worth it, or is this just more megapixel marketing nonsense?

Thanks

Well, at least in the US, the SD770/IXUS 85 was only due in stores in mid-April, so we don't have any more than you do to go on. Without seeing the photos from the two side-by-side there's not a lot of difference apparent.
