This has the potential to change every photographers work flow. I didn't see any other reference to this and it's very, very interesting.

Imaging changing the size and aspect ratio of an image without losing content.

A new process called Image or Seam Carving is "content aware", and allows you to resize your image without adding or losing pixels. It claims to "allow users to resize an image without traditional geometric limitations while minimizing any distortion that would typically result from changing the original aspect ratio of an image."

Check the Youtube demos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qadw0BRKeMk (external link)

onOne Software is releasing Liquid Resize later this year. They currently have a down loadable preview on their site. http://www.ononesoftware.com/liquidresize (external link)

Very interesting stuff.

Not really. It attempts to resize images while keeping the "existing aspect ratio" of key elements within the image. It can automatically detect what it thinks are important areas of the image with which to maintain their original aspect ratio. Seems neat if it works well.

Downloaded and tried the demo. It's good and works quite well but still not perfect. It struggles a bit if there's too much detail. Clever though.
