Im ready to upgrade from my 30D. I have put my money into lenses lately 500 f4 and 300 2.8IS.
My question is what is the latest re the 1D MK111? Is the latest fix final and complete, do we now have a fully functional / focusing camera? Am I safe with a blue dot camera or am I better waiting a wee while yet?
At the moment there isnt a camera in the Canon range that appeals to me, either through cost or issues, with regards to a definitive upgrade or should I be confident that the MK111 issue is resolved.
My main area is for wildlife and sports.
Any advice appreciated.

Experience still varies quite a bit, but by and large it seems the majority are happy with the latest production bodies.

If you're serious, buy it from a shop with a decent return policy and test it out. If you're not happy, take it back.

FWIW - I've had mine since late Feb. and couldn't be happier.

x2 for me, especially regarding sports shooters because I would be shooting mostly sports outside in bright sun.

i shoot motorsport and sport every week, i have had my first once since July last year and my second since December, both needed the fix and i wouldn't trade them for any other body, don't procrastinate and miss out on shooting time, grab one now and enjoy it.

but as mbellot said the safe bet would be to get it from someone who has a decent return policy if you are really worried about it.

I'm delighted with my 1Dm3, its been fine in both one shot and AI servo. I think the biggest problem for the 1Dm3 focusing issue now, is every new camera purchased is going to be put under a microscope and every OOF frame in a series will set doubt in the owner mind.

As Cider said, go for it :-)

I too am extremely happy with my blue dot. It's a great camera, go for it if you can afford it.
