S5 Battery

Hey everyone. I have been mostly lurking here for quite some time, and have owned the Canon S5 for a couple of months. I really love the way it shoots, but I have come across sort of a problem. I use Sony NiMH batteries at around 2500 mAH and can shoot all day without any issues. My problem is however when I switch the camera off put it in its case, and store it on my desk overnight, my batteries seem to die completely. This doesn't happen to the batteries themself, because I can remove them from the camera, and have no issues, but if I take out the camera to take a quick shot of something, I have to load freash batteries in it, and then remember to remove them after I am done. I have yet to run tests to see how long it takes, but it seems to me there is a power drain issue, as though it is not completely turning off. Any ideas, or similar experiances?

sanyo eneloops, storage is longer.

Call Canon - they shouldn't be running down that fast. My A620 goes for months without running down.

If they don't run down when they are out of the camera, then there is something wrong with the camera. there should be no power drain at all when it's turned off.

Sometimes rechargeables will self discharge at a high rate but they would do it in or out of the camera.

I will do a test to see how quick they run they die in both scenarios. Thanks for your help.

ive noticed that with my s3 i can put recharbles in or duracell extras use them 3 shots say then put the cam to one side when i go back the batteries are showing dead or dying! i tend to open the back of the cam ( bat compartment!) when i am storing it otherwise the cam IS amazing!

If they are dieing with the battery compartment open then it self discharge. Get Eneloops or Hybrids. They hold charge for a LONG time. They are only rated 2000 mAh, but actually take more pictures than the higher rated batteries that lose their charge quickly.

no i open the door so they dont die :S

I run these without any problems. Had the camera for 3 weeks and still haven't had to recharge them. Plus you can get the 15 minute charger which works great for me since I hate waiting.

I don't believe the one hour and fifteen minute chargers fully recharge the batteries. I used them without much luck. With Eneloops and other hybrid batteries, and a slow charger, I get great results.

Same here: slow chargers (3 hr for 2500mah) are working nice with mine.
