Hi,

I have the SX100 and will be going to Walt Disney World soon.

I don't even know if it's possible for this camera to get decent shots of indoor animatronic shows like the Carousel of Progress, American Adventure, and Hall of Presidents. These shows typically are low light situations, and the animatronic figures can sometimes have a good deal of movement. You are fairly close to the action in the Carousel of Progress, but the seating areas for the other two shows are further away from the stages.

Flash photography is not permitted in these shows, but it probably wouldn't produce great results anyway.

My question is: what settings would be best for trying to photograph these shows with the SX100? I need as much detailed information and direction as possible (what mode, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc.) as I'm new to this.

Also, does anyone have advice on outdoor nighttime photographs? I have a mini tripod if that helps.

Thanks.

This will be hard as you are going to get noisy shots over ISO 400, but will either have to go over ISO 400 and get lots of noise or a longer shutter speed and get blurred movement...

This is just not a strength of P&S cameras. But I would try to create a similar environment in your house before you go and play with the different settings in Manual mode.

I know if it were my DSLR, I would probably be at ISO 1600 0r 3200, f/2.8 with a shutter speed of about 1/250" for movement, and ISO 400, f/2.8, and 1/60" for shots with less motion. This is of course with me guess on the lighting.... this is almost impossible to tell without seeing the lighting.

Hope this helps. Maybe you could borrow an SLR from a friend so you could use ISO 1600 and 3200...

I just got back from Disney. Point and shoots are terrible in that light. I used movie mode. Even though the IQ of a single frame is much less (being only 640X480), the movie mode kind of makes it moot that each frame might be blurry. I suppose it depends on your intentions. Mine was so my kids could remember the shows, and so we could show family back at home, not to make pro-grade pictures. So, the movie mode worked well for that.

when i went last year i took a P&S and my 30D and although i didnt take any in the attractions mentioned in the first post i think the OP might find that the figures are well lit.

Hi Jorodi25

It has been almost 10 yrs since I stepped foot into DW.

But if you are looking at theater shots, I have the following to share :

PHOTOBUCKET EMBEDDING IS DISABLED BY THIS MEMBER.
Photobucket sends ads instead of embedding photos from their free galleries.
Click the link (if available) below to see the image in a gallery page.

All handheld and at HI/Auto-ISO setting.

Yes, I am penalized with noisy hi-ISO pictures but :

- having a lightweight 10X optical zoom
- small that I can sneak into the theater and will not need to give my position away with a flash shot .

So, this camera really is good for me....

Just my 2 frame's worth :D:D:D
