I got to shoot my second pro MMA event on Saturday. Here are a few images. I'm curious to hear other's opinions on them. The lighting was atrocious with glaring hot lights, white tarps, shiny floors and pulsating blue/green lights all over the place. Not to mention some nasty dark shadows in a few of the corners. I couldn't get much of a shutter speed, so there is some motion blur, but I don't mind it and would rather have it than more noise I think. What's everyone else's opinion on this? All shot at ISO 800 and around 1/250th.

Whoa, I haven't seen many pictures that show how brutal this can be. But number five takes the cake. She looks like she was worked over in a bad way.

Nice shots.

Looks like a pingpong ball was shoved down her eyesocket. As far as C&C. You have some great action shots, but had you used a faster shutter speed, you would have cut out the blur on the impact of the kicks/punches and you have been left with no blur on the feet during the kicks. I shoot MMA/boxing and use 1/500 to stop action. Did you try 1000 for your ISO to see how that handled? I stay at iso 1000, and that seems to help me. Yeah, those blue/green lights look like a pain. Usually the AWB(default whitebalance on a Canon) is okay for boxing, BUT sometimes it's best to do a customer whitebalance or use expodisks. It's rough when a fighter is very fair skinned such as the fighter in #2. In all, I see great action shots. Crop closer to the head on some of them and on the sides on others and the shots will look better.

I sort of agree. I can see men doing more of this, kinda macho contest. I'll try not to get sexist, but why WOULD a woman want to do this? Seems like its another thing women want to do because men do.

You'll never catch me in there, that's for sure. I respect all that participate, men or women.
