I've been shooting minor hockey (my boys team) for one season so I'm still pretty green at this. I made a gallery up for the parents to view at the end of the season. I had one parent ask me how much would I charge for a CD of her son. I replied back with $25. Is that too much to ask for - 30+ pictures of her son? She has not replied back.:(

She was probably hoping you would give it to her for the cost of the CD. People are like that.

I have no idea what the pictures look like, but if they're decent, for 30+ pics of her kid, that's WAY undercharging. As Barb42 said, she probably just wanted something for nothing.

I solved this problem by creating a product in my exposure manager gallery for digital downloads. So far no one has purchased one, indicating they just wanted free images. Putting the web between me and their request for freebies has reduced my worries about dealing with these types. Some who indicated they wanted a CD or digital image wound up buying prints.

Thank you for your comments. I was thinking the same thing that she only wanted to pay very little or get it for free.

I charged $150 per game for a hockey tournament and the coaches bought a cd for each of the 2 games. $25 is way too cheap, she sounds like someone who is happy with her shots through the glass with her P&S camera.

I charge around $200/hour for photography work. To find and process all the images of one player then put them on CD would take 1-3 hours. $25 is way too cheap.

Thanks guys! Here's my gallery http://www.photoshopshowcase.com …edia.aspx?AID=110461&AT=3 (external link) ...like I said I'm still pretty green and I use photoshop elements for pp. Like people on the sports thread say...parents will buy photos that you wouldn't think sell.

I'm not sure what baller means. $200/h is an average, sometimes I make less, sometimes I make more, it depends on the job.

I charge $59 for all the digital negatives for one participant, or $24 each for 1-2. I sell about equal prints versus digital negatives. It takes be about 15 minutes to 1 hour to put together the digital negatives for one participant. One hour's worth of work is iffy businesswise but 15 minutes is cake to me. Sounds like she's just wanting the images for nothing to me. I personally wouldn't sell them that cheap.

I charge $90 per hour myself but after my portfolio builds the price is going to go up. Now I don't think $90 per hour is a bad pay, but the post-processing time can eat it up in a hurry. I think a photographer really needs to make more than the hourly rate at a fast-food joint

Wow prices must have gone up. At the beginning of the season I read somewhere in the sports section someone selling a CD for $25. Better up my price considering all the time I put into searching and pp the pictures...that takes me forever!

Thank you for your input guys...she should have taken the great deal I was offering! LOL!

As an example, 5 minutes after I posted my last response I got an order for 4 digital negatives from a recent middle-school baseball game. Price was $59 (not including taxes and shipping). I view this as "cha-ching!". It took me all of 15 minutes post-processing to produce the CD (with professional printing). Now, of course, I need to sell enough to make my $90 per hour for shoot time (which hasn't happened yet ).

When you think about it, that is under $1 per photo and she can get AS MANY prints as she likes! It is a dead set bargin! And that is without knowing the quality of your work at all.

Losing a sale like this is definitely not the end of the world.
