As I've switched to Nikon, I've refrained from posting here. But I figured, what the hey, the content of the photo is more important than what took it:

I really like the softness of the first two. doesn't matter to me what camera you took it with.

The beauty of a shoot-through umbrella =)

It all comes down to skill and understanding rather than equipment. Looks like you've pretty much got that, these look really good. Delightful series of excellent photos.

Which Nikon did you get?

I particularly like the first photo in your second post....regardless of the equipment.

#2 is great.
love the lighting. Did you just follow him around with an umbrella?? The look so candid.

Nice captures. my only complaint is no exif.

My host is very weird about that. All the photos should have Exif, and if you probably check back now, they might. It's iffy and it comes down to something with the hosting service (Half-Lime) ... I'll talk to the creator about it.

The series is shot on two different days. The first photos were shot with a shoot-through camera left and and a silver umbrella 7 ft up in the air pointed straight down slightly off to camera right. For the second set, specifically the ones he is eating in, the shoot through is directly in front of him just out of frame. Our living room doubles as his playroom, so I'll usually set up some of his favorite toys right in the middle of my light setup and wait 4 minutes for him to get over the novelty of having the umbrella present and go back to playing with his toys. Then I get his mother to try to make him laugh ... candid is definitely what I'm going for. Lucky for me, he's now starting to understand the concept of posing (as is evident in pictures #2 and #4) so I can start experimenting a bit more.

Last January ('07) I was in the market for a pro-level DSLR to replace my Canon 300D and I ended up with a D200 ... it was a good move for me and I'm very happy. Would love to have gotten a used 1Ds Mark II, but too much out of my price range. I didn't really have enough glass at the time for it to be a factor in what I went with.
