Ive done that (was over 90 dollars, so I thought id do it for a laugh) and eventually they just take it out of your pay weekly. However it took over 9 letters, and 3-4 months before this occurred.

So you have time, and at least 3-4 letters of the same thing to come yet :P

This one was a student loan repayment.

Interim student loan repayment for 2008 of $1800. Current balance of student loan $1400

I got a letter from the IRD last week, saying to pay them $1800 immediately. I thought about it for a couple of days then went and purchased a camera. They can wait.

Yikes! Be careful! They are the one department not to mess with!

Anyway, to the important details, what camera did you get? :)

Never bothered with the MSL.
Took 6 years before they did anything, even though they sent me a letter each year telling me I was on the wrong code

Almost all payed back now though.

I got one as well. :p

Mine said to pay them $4600 immediately. And said if I don't respond by 31st March, they're going to take control of my account and take out money themselves.

So I followed the instructions online, on what information is required to email them, DOB, IRD, and story about fact I'm in UK now, and offering repayment scheme.. Only to get a response saying unfortunately due to privacy act they can't act on anything, and please register on IRD> So thought stuff that and moved on.

Paid some money the last two months now. It's just something so easily overlooked, the student loan. Most of mine was from living costs during the whole of 2002. And what I hate is the fact it was assessed on my families income, and because of them earning over the threshold I'M PENALISED and have to borrow the $150 a week.. Yet people from other families get gifted this money altogether.

Ah better go work and pay some more tax for UK. This month alone, I'm paying the UK government £800 tax - $2000.

Yeah know about that. My parents scrapped together combined a living that meant I couldn't get a full allowance.
My flatmate parents had a dairy farm in Cambridge worth a couple of mil but somehow made no income so he qualified for the full allowance

Heheh that's pretty cool :D I take it the processing on your niece was meant to be that heavy as it doesn't quite gel with the rest of the scene.

Cheers, Shane.
