who has experience with either the 1.4 or 2.0 extender and 70-200 F2.8L?

I'm thinking I may get one for a sports exchange next week

Yep, have used that combo quite a bit of late.

On my 20D seems to work OK although the occasional shot seems as if it's been "soft focussed" like a studio shot. (only when used with the 2x)

Some believe that the 2x is one of those items you can get good and bad copies of. Someone (might have been Shrimper) was telling me recently his one ain't that good.

As for the 1.4x, I barely ever notice performance differences when I use that on anything. Slows the auto focus down a tad - but other than that doesn't seem to have too much impact (then again the slowing of the focus might in itself be enough of a problem for you not to use it)

Try it anyway, better than forking out for something huge like a 400.

I'll trade you 5kms running for 10kms on the bike anyday.....started running again recently. Damn near killing me. Although in a strange way, I am also enjoying that part of it. Sore muscles indicates that I at least still have some muscle tissue left!

What I love about this green movement is that despite all the scare mongering, very very few people have actually come up with real solutions. I mean it's all great to say that you cant burn coal, can't dig for oil, can't burn trees, can't use hydro power cause it damages the environment, can't use wind turbines cause they're "horizon pollution", can't use nuke cause it's too dangerous.

Only leaves solar, but you need massive amounts of panels to account for the loss of all those other things, and it'll be nigh-on impossible to find enough space (and produce enough panels) to generate anywhere near the amount of energy currently being consumed.

This year is likely to be the first time in recorded history that the north pole will be without ice over summer :)

Should make a good landscape for photography.

The only thing worse than doing something wrong while trying to work out a solution is to ignore the problem. Personally I favour the big mirror setups that boil water at the top of a tower... chuck them in the desert, no one has to look at them. And as an added bonus, we've finally found a use for Australia :D

I haven't been here for a while, hope all are well. Anyone ever take photos at a league game before?

Is that a standard 18-55?

Yip, 18-55 it is. same range as the old one, even looks similar to the mircoUSM version.

Please explain how it's crap.

The front element rotates (which makes using filters a pain as well) and manual focus grip is simply the outside of the front element.
It is also a little loose and sloppy, so if you let it go and moves slightly.
Same as the old kitlens, but the mechanism has been tightened slightly.

Cool, any price on it yet to buy as separate item? Is it worth it (in your opinion)

No idea, it was on the front of a suppliers camera that he bought in the UK. I know they sell it seperatly, but no idea how much.

As a budget everyday lens, if it is under $250 (comparable to the old kit lens) then it would be an absolute bargain. We know the old lens was capable optically, and we know the new lens is better. The addition of IS and improved focus would make a great light weight travel lens, or occasional use lens for someone who doesn't do a lot of wide angle work, or a great first lens for someone new to the hobby and working on a budget.

Harden up (actually I agree, got one here at work too). Then again, my 350D still gets hammered on select outings. Has served me well. I shall ask for a state funeral to be held for it when the time comes for it to go to camera heaven.

Over all it was nice little camera, just the grip around the shutter button was far to small.
The buttons were all well placed and thought out, and the controls were nice and easy to figure out to.

It just felt like someone had built a really nice single seater race car, then ruined it by sticking a VW motor in the back..........

So long and thanks for all the flash

Tough crowd :p
I guess it's deserved when I don't jump in the middle of a convo and flick my 2p into it ;)

In other news, 2 months till Brissy, (though, I almost scammed a ticket to the Bledisloe this weekend.. ), 2 and a bit months till Paris, Rome and Tuscany. 11 months till the boat cruise around Spain and Greece, and a tad more till Hawaii.
(I'm so gonna have to eat all my words if it all turns to the proverbial custard)

And I just scored a 300k contract for work. W00t, at least when I leave, I go out with a bang :D

And still doing Architectural shooting, too :)
