There is no surf at piha
Looks like wind flattened out the other day

Thanks for that - think I will stay at home this afternoon and maybe try tomorrow.

according weather watch it is not really going to hit till this evening, with the worst to Auckland around midnight - constant 120km winds... The latest update on the sites suggests a possible cat 2 cyclone - but hey it is the interweb and a weather forecast - I am not taking bets.

One stays indoors anyway, but they're happily snuggled on a duvet on the bed :)

It's quite still were we are, but thats because we are on the western side of the hill.
I just went for a dive, and well anything on the other side of the hill is experiencing some VERY strong winds.
Drove through East Tamiki and and a front loading skip bin was parking on the side of the street, where the wind had pushed it up against the curb.
Lots of tree branches and debris all over the road, and driving at anything above 60kph requires some concentration as the car gets blown around a lot. Gusts are easily in-excess of 100kph.

So long and thanks for all the flash

Good luck you Aucklanders. I hope you all hold up OK. Mum says today (in Levin) reminds her of an English winter, dead still, cold, and clouds hovering.
