Ours got turned off at 9am on the dot this morning.

Something to do with an accounts mistake after we moved into your new building.
But no warning letters, no warning emails, nothing. It just got switched off.

Ooooer, I haven't had to deal with Orcon in the business sense.
What was their response when your rep called to ask what was up?

Tony -

They did sort it pretty quickly, once they answered the phone, but we were down for an hour and a half before it was resolved.

So long and thanks for all the flash

Heh - I bet your rep that called them knows the CD they play (for hold) almost as well as I do, now.
I make it a game, I dance to the tunes they play.. and I suspect Ceebee is likely part of the reason why it's all house music :p (or was, didn't he flick Orcon and now has a bit to do with NZ emissions testing..?)

Any of the techheads on this forum familiar with Sharepoint customisation - specifically if you can have a "peron or group" field that allows new 'people' to be added on the fly......

The problem is that some people who are to be entered are not part of the active directory (or domain for that matter) - we want to get rid of the "check names" functionality essentially.

Have searched all over the place.

Cliff
P.S. I know it may be a longshot but thought I'd give it a go here.

The impossible has begun - another step closer - and I am very hungry for it.

reads up his sharepoint for dummies book...

try this

SharePoint site members who are in the site group called "Site Manager" have permissions that allow them to add new users to a SharePoint site.

To Add Members

  1. Go to your SharePoint site and log in.
  2. Click on Site Settings (navigation bar at top).
  • Sometimes you have to go to "Modify this Workspace" on the right, and choose "Site Settings" from that list.

  1. Click on Manage Users (under Administration).
  • This will show you the list of current users and their Site Group (permission level).

  1. Click on Add Users.
Step One: Add Users

  1. Enter users.
  • MUST be in the format of AG\userID or WIN\userID (ex: AG\xyz123 or WIN\xyz123)
  • Multiple users can be added at one time by separating with a semicolon
Step Two: Choose Site Groups

  1. Click the appropriate check box to determine permissions for the user(s)
  • Most users will probably be Contributors (allows them to add info to the site), you can specify whatever level you think is right.

  1. Click Next.
Step Three: Confirm Users

  1. Read the name(s), to be sure it's the correct person.
  • Make sure the names are correct in this step (no typos), and note any problems (you'll need to add any problem addresses again later)
Step Four: Send Email

  1. Use this option to send the e-mail that's displayed on this page. If you leave this checked, then add a message as to why they were added and anything else you want them to know.
  • Or, uncheck this and remember afterward to send them an email to let them know they were added, what the URL is for the site, and whatever else you want them to know.

  1. Click Finish.

its about as close to it as i can think, but there could be another way... it does keep the check name but allows you to circumvent the process by adding users on the fly.....

Add a contact in AD, instead of a real AD user. Its hack, but it works. Not sure if it will work for this, but works for most similar things that use check name in AD etc. Other than that, setting up a script to create users or 'contacts' in AD via a web page or other means is another work around. That's really about all ive done in regards to hacks around that one. Unless like the above you do not want then in AD in any shape or form.

And 24-70 f2.8's help you achieve this with the Red ring, it can be used as a connector to the errr Flux capacitor.........

Snip.

This sounds promising for creating truly non AD users...interesting. Ive decided ill stay away from SP for a while longer

Thanks Chris, Mevunky,

The point Chris was avoiding having to do person additions, but to somehow keep the field type of "person or group".

Essentially, I think the better option for these guys is a text field. Adding contacts etc will just add another step when the user adds a record. (which is exactly the reason they don't want the "check names" stuff to come into play).

I think it's a conceptual issue, if they want to add any old person in there (without having to do the 'contacts' step) a text field is what they need. Because, by definition, the "person or group" field expects an already known 'person or group' to be selected when the record is created. (I can code some C# and handle the addition on the fly, which is probably what I might have to do)

I don't want to get too deep under the hood and break other parts of the functionality of the "person or group" fields though.

Hmmm. Normal service can now resume. Apologies for hijacking the thread.

Cliff
Thanks again Chris, Mevunky.
