But I prefer the term 'digital rangefinder style fixed lens camera' (though it is quite awkward, actually ;) )

DRSFL Cameras . . . I love it! You can even (unlike DSLR) pronounce it - durs-ful.

I agree with Scott.....

I'm not sure how anyone can call a camera with the feature set of a G2/3/5/6 a "point and shoot camera"......I sure can't. An S400 - yes - my G5 - no way.

I'm with Scott, thou I have the 10D, I still love my G3 and I won't give it up you can't beat it for those candid street shots, kind of hard to hide the fact you're taking someones picture with the big 10D   , and the G3 is just great to carry around.

Back to the original topic . . .

Back to the original Topic . . . maybe this forum's been around long enough to have most (if not all) G-series topics to have been discussed at some point.

I'm fairly new to this forum and I've been able to get a lot of questions answered by just doing searches and reading all your threads.

. . . plus, i'm trying not to get yelled at for not doing my research first

Yes I have noticed that most questions have been asked and answered over time, however I don't believe it is very nice yelling at people who ask questions already answered, so ask away :D

I would imagine that there are pleanty of G6 questions that haven't been asked yet!

I've had my G2 since it came out and its still an awesome camera that can't be beat (in terms of being able to take great pictures). I will probably get a DSLR soon, but won't ever give up the G2 - it's still got plenty of life left and I like the fact I can carry a versatile camera around in my cargo pockets. but there's things the DSLR can do that the G2 can't and I can't wait to get into that end of photography.

So maybe most of the G-series owners are out there taking great images!

I'm with you Sam! My hardworking G5 is approaching 9000 images - in 8 months. Ouch! Now, does that mean I take lots of good pictures? Nope, but I think you get better the more you practice. Flash photography is challenging, and requires a lot of experimentation....

I guess for me "busy taking pictures" extends to "busy participating in photo contests" too, which takes time away from this forum, at times. But for a few ideas on what a G5 can do, with little photoshopping, take a look at one of my online galleries, at

www.harberts.com/photo (external link)

And to wrap up on a high note, I'm with everybody who values the combination of image quality and portability - all my stuff fits in a small camera bag, always ready to head out of the door... Never felt that way with my A-1 and lenses. Maybe a digital rangefinder, one of these days, but no more SLRs for me...

FWIW,

K

Proud owner of a G6.

Initially started with A80... A really portable and worthwhile camera, i now have added G6 to my photographic gear recently.. May be in some more time to go, i will be a proud owner of some DSLR....

WoW.. Then i can post in all 3 canon forums here.... :D

BTW, just a quick question... why doesn G-Series cameras come with longer zoom like panasonic FZ20 does... jus curious... dont yell at me for this,
