I had to work with our afterschool children.... There is one girl... <snip>
broke my heart....

:( :( :( That is heart wrenching. I'm glad she has you. Thank you for hugging her. SO many people are 'afraid' to hug kids these days.

That sounds so terribly sad Jenn, I am so glad you were there for her. This child is lucky to have you in her life, especially if she does not have any good support in her own home. :(

Thanks guys. I've seen alot and dealt with alot... I've seen abuse/neglect... There isn't much I haven't seen with these kids... but when her hair entire sections of hair were in the hallway... and on the carpet in front of me... for whatever reason that shook me to the core today... Like I said I have NO idea what happened with her today... and I'll ask the director tomorrow, and she'll tell me... in about the 5 min that I sat with her hugging her and she wasn't crying... she was saying things that should never have to come out of a 10 year old child's mouth.... :( When I left I told her I loved her... and I do... she's hard headed, stubborn, fly hot, you name it she's almost as difficult as they come... but she has my heart...

I had to work with our afterschool children.... There is one girl... she's got ALOT of issues, a really lousy homelife with way too much drama for one 10 year old... way too much crap.... she doesn't deal well with authority... she is extremely impulsive... and hot tempered... She and I bonded... I don't know why... but she listens to me, for a period of time she worked hard to keep her self in check so that she and I could go off and spend 30 min just me and her talking, feeding horses whatever we found ourselves doing...

But today... I have no clue what happened... I have no idea how she got to this point, I was with another group of children... but when I went to clock out to go home.... I found her in the directors office..... this child was ripping her own hair out in anger.... she was crying and angry... It absolutely ripped my heart out. she was sitting in the office floor a pile of her hair in front of her on the carpet... her head in her hands sobbing.... I just crawled on the floor to her and hugged her. Normally I find out the issue before I do that kind of thing because I don't want to condone bad choices... but I held her and she sobbed harder... some of the things she said to me... This child is single handedly one of the most difficult children we have to deal with in our program... but for whatever reason she bonded with me, and I with her... I ended up sitting there in the office floor crying with her... talking to her... It broke my heart....

Jenn so nice of you to be there for her ..I had alot of trama as a young girl and in retrospect ...people like you where there and now i feel they where angels watching over me .

We're somewhat of a small community... between staff and parents there are alot of them who grew up together... one of our staff knew this mom in high school... and she lived a bad life herself... and the cycle hasn't broken for her daughter... it's very tragic...
