So remember that shot of the dadford kissing my MIL I got a 5x7 made of that shot for my dadford for a birthday gift .Now I wonder do I frame it or just give it to them ?? Last time I believe my MIL gave the frame away to the thrift store

I would do a simple, inexpensive frame to show it off better. Then, no real loss if they don't want to keep it.

Curt and I met a new professional photog in town the other night at the club meeting. Curt went down this afternoon to talk to him as a possible 2nd shooter. He is holding a workshop tonight and invited us both to attend.

At the club meeting we took some of our shots to pass around and he was really impressed with the portraits I took of the little girl last fall and my nieces and nephews. He has studios in Arizona and Barrington, IL does a lot of corporate work, 300+ weddings a year (his company does) and lots of charity events. He was saying when he has weddings in AZ he will fly photogs from the Chicago area down to shoot because he hasn't found any photographers in the area he trusts to shoot weddings.

He is also a Cannon direct dealer. Should be interesting to see what pans out from all this. So I'm getting ready to shut down for the evening and head to this workshop. Not sure when I'll be back. I'll be sure to fill you all in when I return, however.

by the time I was done drying my hair I could barely move, so I stayed home from work today and took a muscle relaxer. It's not helping much. =/

You mean like with a hair dryer? Like girls do?

 You lock your doors. We do when leaving for a few days, but if we are running out for a few hours we don't bother. I would feel like a victim of crime without one being committed if I was guilted in to locking my door. I know, I probably the exception here.

Lisa, (or anyone) ... off camera lighting question:

If I want to fire my 580EX off camera, I have to have either:
A sync cord (I have)
or a Speedlight transmitter (external link)
Or a pocket wizard.

Right? Any of these will work, correct?
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons between the speedlight transmitter and the PWs?

Don't recall if the 580 (original one, right?) has a PC connection to use a regular sync cord. Or are you talking about Canon's OC-S2 hot shoe connector that gives you E-TTL with an off-camera flash?
Speedlite ST-E2 is IR, and will only work on flashes in front of, within 40 ft. or less of, and within 40 deg. of the lens axis on, your camera. BUT, they let you use E-TTL flash with 2 light groups. They do the same as your 580 used as a Master unit, except the 580 will let you set up 3 groups of lights.
Pocket Wizards are straight radio waves; all they do is tell your flash to fire. And you need a transmitter on the camera plus a receiver for each flash. BUT you can also use a PW with the right cord to remotely trigger your camera.

cfpackerfan wrote in post #5399279 (external link)
So, what would be the advantages to getting thespeedlight transmitter (external link)then?
It says that it can control an unlimited number of speedlights. Sounds smarter than having to get a PW for each flash. ?!

Range, and flexibility in where you put the flashes. The flashes (their IR sensors) have to be able to see the ST-E2 to work.

timbernet wrote in post #5399623 (external link)
The ST-E2 uses IR light - when used outdoors the signal sometimes fades quickly, like 10' --- not that flexible then. PocketWizards cost a lot of money - but they are worth it if you are going to be doing a lot with flashes... I started with cheap ebay radio slaves, but had too many issues and missed shots. So I bought some PWs and haven't missed a shot yet :-D

Yeah. That. ST-E2 (or 580EX as master for that matter) works best when the flashes are using alkalines or at any rate not NiMH, in my experience. I have both ST-E2 and PWs. Likely to use either or both.
