Water is a powerful thing....

Yes it is, especially when the levees break. A small breech becomes a deluge in seconds.

How long before the water receded? And how bad were the mosquitos afterward?

In places it took the waters a while to receed. But the tank shots I took were just a couple of days apart.... But it took a week or more in certain areas. I don't recall the mosquitos being all that bad... but I didn't live close enough to any of the major flooding. The tank shot is about 5 miles from my house... We left for Florida the day after Ivan arrived in the area to get on a cruise ship! Then Hurricane Jeanne spent our entire cruise on the eastern side of the Bahamian Islands and came ashore just a day or so after we returned to port!

Too bad you had to go to Plan B on your cruise schedule. Did you enjoy it in spite of Jeanne?

Hows everyones weather today? It is thundering and pouring by me...

Sunny and dry... The temperature here at my house broke 90° sometime between 0930 and 1230 while I was out meeting with the Chief. It's showing almost 93° right now.

We had one night/day of HUGE 20ft seas, and it was rough on my (now ex) husband... he pretty well stayed in bed. I was walking about that night after I put the boys to bed, and the husband was in bed. I was walking down a hallway behind one of the officers who was staggering just as bad as I was, we had a laugh over that... told him he should have his sea legs, he had just come back on the ship after having been off of it for a month! hehehehe

The rest of us staggered around the ship :p I LOVED our cruise!!!!! We funny enough didn't have any changes to our route though! We had beautiful weather, pretty choppy seas most of the trip but it was still awesome!

Not likely, here is the feed to the millrace, the trunks stay in the river:

Well that's good. So the water level never crests above the banks? It does down here often around all the normal dry creeks.

Nice shots Neil. This one here looks like a UFO crash anded in the background.

but of course we made it to Baseball in time to be handed a box full of candy to sell, we have to give them $65.00 whether we sell it or not!

I hate when Evan's school pushes all those fundraiser things on us. We pay the school enough, but they still want more. Fortunately for us though, we don't have to give them money whether we sell or not.

Next time Lisa comes here to the desert, she'd better bring you along. There's a great old timey candy store in Calico (she knows where it is...).

Cool looking store. My teeth are hurting now.

Water is a powerful thing.... These are scrapbook pages I did of the floods we had in Western NC in 2004 due to Hurricanes Frances and Ivan....

Let me now give that tank some perspective...
QUOTED IMAGE

Looks like people had to avoid that tank by driving on the hill there.

Hey. Should I rent the 120-300mm Sigma.... It is going to cost me $180 USD for less than a week with insurance and shipping. I was going to shoot a rugby game this weekend but my lens in back focusing really bad. I don't know if I should or not...

I got the lens from pcnation.com. I looked at their return policy and I wouldn't be able to exchange it unless canon gave me a code to exchange it. Which doesnt make any sense. I think I am going to pass on the 120-300. the more I think about it the more I realize that I could put the $180 towards other things I actually need.

Yeah the idiots who thought they were above the law/barracades just HAD to drive through there.... Idiots.... We had many river rescues during those floods due to idiots driving into and getting overcome by the high waters...

I'm watching "Pushing Daisies". It's quirky, bizarre, but I like it.

Very much a modern version of "Bewitched"

I watched a couple episodes of that when it debuted. I never could get into it. There were a couple huge gaping holes in the plot that I just couldn't get past.

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.
