SD1000 thoughts?

I am thinking of getting the SD1000 since it is so cheap. I want it as an upgrade after my SD600 died. I know I can get the SD600 on ebay probably for around $80-$100 so is the SD1000 worth it? I actually heard that the SD600 actually takes sharper and better pictures than the SD1000, is this true? But conversely, I also heard from the reviews I've read that the SD1000 also takes slightly better quality pictures than the newer SD1100IS, is there any truth in that either?

Here is a side by side comparison. They seem almost identical. I would expect that they have very similar image quality.

I'm sure they're all about the same. ISO levels on the SD1000 might be a tad better but you're dealing with more MP's so...meh. I plan on getting the SD1000 or SD750 since their prices are so low and I'd just rather have something new.

So is it safe to say that no other P&S camera out would offer better picture quality for the same size and price?

I'm a pro: I use xD and xxD bodies, I shoot with L glass; and I love my SD1000. It's the perfect camera for friendly gatherings, office parties or date night. Is it comparable to an SLR? Not at all. Are there better quality point and shoots? Sure there are, but not for the price. The SD1000 will get you where you need to go. And it shoots video, which is totally sweet.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll go ahead. The thing is, I have the original SD100 and love it. I've taken over 5000 pictures with it. And after taking this many pictures, I get a feel as to what kinda picture quality and manual controls I want. I really wanna get an xti just so that I am able to take pictures that gets featured in those digital photo challenges yet I cannot see myself bring it around me to social gatherings! Arrgh....

I guess I'll just have to get the SD1000 first and save up or an xti later...

The SD1000 takes more consistently-good pictures than any other camera that I have owned. It's hard to fool.

I recommend using the camera in M mode and manually setting the ISO yourself to avoid noise. Outdoors - ISO 80. Indoors - ISO 200 or 400

I just bought one last weekend, chosen because of its size and relatively low price: I snagged one for 160 euros, 1 Gb card included. I wanted something I could bring with me all those times when lugging a dslr wouldn't do. I have to say, it's a nifty little thing and it takes very good pictures. At that size and current prices, it's a steal.

My one complaint with the SD1000 is that it attracts fingerprints very easily. It uses a different metal finish than other PowerShots that seems especially smudge-prone. I just hold it by the edges with both hands to avoid this.

But it seems that the SD1000 has a better quality feel than the most recently SD1100. Did they use more plastic around the housing of the SD1100?

I love my SD1000. For a camera that you can literally shove in your jeans pocket, the pictures are excellent. Just buy it. You won't regret it.
