I have got to grips with Av, Tv, P and am forcing myself now to shoot all in Manual mode as much as possible but have no idea what the A-DEP setting is for. I'll probably never use it but can someone please remind me?!

Like if you're taking a group shot and want everyone in focus - e.g., a larger depth of field. ---------------

On 1 series cameras it's a bit different. You select subjects to focus on then it "sets" settings. I'm not sure what other Canon cameras do. people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
