I am considering a ST-E2 to use with my two 550EXs and hoping that the ST-E2 offers a wider and or longer range than the flash. The range of the 550EX as a master is pretty limited.

Has anyone noticed an increase in range going from the flash as a master, to the ST-E2?

I have a ST-E2, the range is shorter on the ST-E2 then the 580/550. Also I can turn the master 580's flash head to fire the slave off to the side, and the ST-E2 can't do that.

That being said, I have no problem triggering the slaves with the ST-E2 inside the house.

Definitely NOT. Specs list same numbers, but many people said that ST-E2 has even shorter range than 550s.

Camera: EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 70D, ™24-70mm f2.8 VC, EF 70-200mm IS f2.8 L II, EF 100mm IS f2.8 L Macro, EF-S 18-135 STM, Σ 12-24 II.
EOS 5D mkII, 20D, S100, EF 24-70mm f2.8 L, EF 24-105mm IS f4.0 L, EF 70-200mm IS f4.0 L, EF-S 18-200mm IS, EF 100mm f2.8 macro
Light: Sun, Speedlite 580EXII, 550EX, 430EX, EL-Skyports, Reflectors, Umbrellas, Diffusers etc.

Sounds like I'll need RadioPoppers and a ST-E2 if I want to increase the range.
