My wife wants me to photograph her collectible figurines and snowglobes. Objects range from 2-inches to 18-inches in height. She has 300-400 of these things, so I don't want a DIY setup as I'll most likely kill it after 50 or so items go in and out.

Here's the ones I've seen that may fit my needs:
Smith Victor LB-28, 28" Light Box Tent with Background Sweeps. (external link)

Lastolite 36" Cubelight, Collasible Self-contained, Completely Enclosed Shooting Light Tent. (external link)

Impact Digital Light Shed - Extra Large - 24x24x36" (external link)

Interfit / Paterson Pop Up Photo Box Collapsible Shooting Tent - 36" (external link)

I'm using the light tent approach to remove bad reflections. What I don't know is how much of the light tent I can fill with an object before I'm screwed. I'm thinking that an 18-inch-tall object in a 24-inch light tent is pushing it on the height. If the object is 18-inches wide, that gives me 3-inches on either side. That is most likely wrong. This is why I'm looking at the 36-inch cubes. I'm trying to take distortion free photos (no wide-angle close-ups of big objects) and I don't want the edges of the object extending beyond the edges of the background.

Finally, does anyone have any info on this:
Westcott Light Tent - 54 x 40" (external link)

It's certainly different than a cube. I'd have to provide my own bottom. I'm not thinking this is what I need.

I bought myself an 80cm light cube from eBay. It looks very much like the Lastolite cube but is a good deal cheaper. I've had it up and down a few times. I don't know how long it will last but so far it's working OK. Here's an example from eBay....

At $37 all in it's quite a saving on the Lastolite. I bought mine in the UK so it may not be identical but the basic specs are the same, including the slotted front cover and the included coloured backdrops..

Here is the setup and a sample shot of something 16.5" tall (measured). I set this shot up real quick, since originally posting this reply. I just nipped into the dining room to fire off a quick one :) ....

Because mine folds into a supplied circular pouch, 14" across, so can be easily tidied away or transported without risk of damage, say to a friend's house, or client location, etc.. Plus, paying £15 doesn't exactly break the bank, especially when you get the coloured backdrops thrown in as well.

How would you construct a home built light box box that was 30" cubed and could be packed into such a compact and resilient package when not in use?
