Dennis, great stuff as usual !! How much saturation change and sharpening did you do....seems a tad over saturated on this screen ( work screen may be the problem). I love your work!

jc - nothing unusual. I did boost the saturation as part of the Save for Web process. Normally I'll post links to images hosted elsewhere, and when I do this the images are just what I edited. However, since (at least IMO) there's nothing special about these images, I just did a Save for Web in PS after boosting the saturation about 10 clicks to account for the Save for Web effect of flattening the colors.

Here's what the Griffey image looks like without being "Saved for Web"

Can I take a chance of putting my foot right in it with such a competent and obviously professional discussion?

The first shot needs its horizon levelled.

Unless of course there's a damn good reason why it doesn't. Sorry.

that last guy there made some good points both ways. If you look to see if you caught a specific shot you can move on to something else, yet by chimping you certainly can miss something.

Yeah, I struggle with this balance all the time. It's a matter of chimping for QA and not just to see if I got the shot.

Chimping also allows you to save CF card space and reduce the number of images to ingest and review later. For example, when I'm shooting batters, I'll time the shots, but since I'm in high speed burst mode by default, I'll get my shot and often one extra. So, I end up instantly chimping to delete the extra shot after every pitch. Plus, as the video said, once you know you've got solid shots of a player, you can move on to other players or parts of the contest.

Chimping and tagging in-camera like you can with the MkIIn (and other pro bodies) reduces post processing time by allowing you to ID candidates for processing. This is really helpful when I'm having to transmit live from an event and don't have the time to review every last image taken

When I first went digital and this other guy was still film he would laugh when I and others were chimping, saying how stupid we looked. I wanted to check the quality and if I could move on. Soon as he goes digital he was a big time chimper, funny because that happened very often with him - say this and that but soon as he realized how big of an asset it was he was his story changed; "I never said that!" Moral of the story, I dont have one - sorry.

I chimp most the time to check levels and know if I got the shot I wanted along with saving time later. My old laptop took forever to download so always went through them on body no matter what - during or after a game I would go through them all before downloading as it was that slow, man I don't miss that thing. The new one allows me not to do that but still chimp. Being mostly stock and not newspaper stuff I know the type of shots I need/want for which clients so want to make sure I got it before moving on. I know I missed some shots doing it so am more careful with it nowadays, though I slipped up more than a few times last AHL game!

It was interesting to see Peter Read Miller talking about keeping everything; I saw a special on SI shooters and noticed that first - lots of mediocre or just bad shots and then the editor explained how they dont let the 'togs delete and the good and bad gets back to the editing room. Makes sense as they explained the whole process and could get through thousands of images in minutes. No clue where I saw it though.
