Hello all of POTN! I was wondering your best techniques for getting models into whatever mood you need them in to get the photo you're after.

I have been using visualization techniques. I typically get the first 20 or so picture of ot the way to get the starting jitters worked out. After that, If a model isn't giving me what I'm looking for, I might tell them to close their eyes and think of a number of things: The person they love, someone they had a crush on, a specific sad moment in their life... usually that works pretty well. (I'm a film student, so I have a very "director" attitude when I shoot)

My problem is that if that technique doesn't work... I have no back up plan! What methods do you use?

Music...

The right music can excite, depress, fire up, calm down, etc...

Same here. Though I've been known to tell a funny or sad story to get t a model to ease into the look I want.

Champagne.

No really though, I'm not much of a glamour photog so keep that in mind. Ask the model to bring a CD of her choice, have a chat before the shoot to get a great idea of what work you two can do, keep it lively and interesting. There has to be chemistry with anyone or anything I shoot, it has to be worth it and I have to want it.

I ask them questions and get them to talk about themselves. I'll also pretty much do or say anything to make them smile, laugh and have a good time.

Champagne.

Indeed.

If they are a pro, they wont need it.

But if they are not used to it, even a couple of glasses all round can help loosen both parties involved.
