Hi all, I've been lurking for quite some time in these forums, gathering all sorts of info on DSLRs and lenses. After much consideration, I've finally decided on the XSi body w/ a Tammy 17-50 2.8. I wanted my 1st dSLR to be relatively light, but have the functionality that I was seeking. I decided to "borrow" my brother's 20D on a CA coastal trip, and decided to run the tammy thru a "few" test runs. here are a couple pics i took @ the hearst castle. all of them are jpg, no pp. you can view the larger pics @ flickr (external link)

I've tried out the XSi today and it's really nice if you're considering it. I have a post up with a pic sample, but I'm hoping that I have more time next week to try it out outdoors and post some more pics with comparisons.

It is a really light camera, much lighter and smaller than your brother's 20D.

nice, and welcome!

I upgraded from the XTi to the 30D and I am wondering how much fun it is going to be with the extra weight... oh well.

I am sure you will enjoy your Rebel... ;)

Nice shots. Were you able to do any pool reflections without the over blown windows in the frame?

I’ve seen numerous example shots with the kit lens on dpreview.com I’m looking forward to the performance of this camera.

Personally, the extra weight won’t really feel like it’s significantly noticeable until you put a hefty lens (e.g. 24-70L) on it. My brother has one, and I can see how the weight balance would feel odd on a lighter body. I was tossing up the idea b/w the 30D and the XSi for a while, but there were enough features on the XSi to sway me in that direction, especially the weight factor. I can already see myself moving to the xxD series after using my brother’s camera, but I feel that I can wait on that and focus more on technique and buying high quality glass.

I’ll look tonight but I doubt I have any. It was difficult to get the shot w/ very low ambient light (hence the blown out window). I was rushing my shots cuz the tour bus was waiting for me. If anything it’s just an excuse to go back for better lighting ;)
