So my 70-200 is back focusing pretty badly and it is making my images rather soft. I have to shoot a rugby game next week so I have to wait before I send it in to the canon service place. I have only had the lens for 2 weeks so it is still under warenty.

I was wondering if any of you have sent in you lenses with front/back focusing issues to have them repaired? Was it fixed? Was it done in a timely manner?

Also. What should I ship it to the canon service center in and what do I include in the package?

I am so heated about this. I was so excited about this lens that I denied it for a while the the pics were soft. Out of every 100 pictures I take... I would say about 70-80% of them are not sharp or on focus. It is really upsetting...:(

just bubble wrap the lens with both end caps. no filters, tripod rings or original box.

canon service has always done me right and in a very timely fashion.

good luck!

Thanks ED rader. The reason why I am so concerned is because I don't really get how they can fix it. Are they going to take apart the lens or something?

i think they have to dissemble the lens somewhat to adjust the elements. some guys will include a CD with pictures that make their case but i never do.

i think the service is pretty routine and the longest it's taken me to get a lens back from canon irvine was 8 days.

good luck!

This blows. And I know that if I do end up renting the 120-300 it is just going to make me want to buy one... lol

Anyone else want to share canon service experience... please do.. :)

I know it's frustrating but when you get it back you'll know for sure that it works well. I felt my 24-105L was soft but tolerated it for almost a year. Sent it in for calibration within the warranty period and sure enough, it came back much better than when I sent it in. The only negative aspect for me is the way they track the lens. I sent it in per instructions and it took about 4 days for them to acknowledge receipt it. It came back within 2 weeks. Overall good experience with Canon.

Ds MkII replaced shutter/motor under warrenty. It was out of my hands for 2 weeks including shipping time.
Couple days wasted as I was away and there was some warrenty questions.

If you contact them in advance, packing instructions will be privided. If you send the origional box, you risk losing it.

I am a happy camper.

I dropped my 24-70 down and embankment on to rocks.. ugh. I took it in to Canon and had it back in a week. They replace 2 of the element groups and repaired all of the damage and only charged me $200.00 of the $650.00 they could have charged. I'm still not sure why, but other than some cosmetic damage, it works beautifully. I have also had my 20D "refurbished" got it back in 7 days cost $250.00.. Seems that is all I every pay :)

Great service, Excellent Customer Service and really friendly people at the Irvine facility. I have seen many people bring in a camera for cleaning and get it back within 30 minutes. I've seen 25 people in the waiting room. It is a lot like a doctors office!

Wrap it in bubble wrap with the lens cap and end cap. If you go to their website, you can make a reservation and let them know what the problem is and when you'll be sending it in.

Thanks everyone. This is starting to seem much less stressful now. I was looking on the canon website but I could not find a listing of the facilities I would use. I have to search again. Where it the Ivrine facility?

I just went through the same thing with a 300 F4 IS. It took two trips, and probably would have been more if I did not receive the escalation # from a poster here.

I sent mine wrapped in bubble wrap, original box, with examples on CD.

Canon has very serious CQ issues in terms of focus. Bummer to hear this. I know exactly what it's like.

If they don't fix it right the first time, let me know and I will give you the number. It's around here somewhere. The fact your lens is brand new gives you alot of leeway. They should pay for shipping as well. Ask for a label to Irvine CA.

I asked the guy if they pay for shipping and he said I have to pay for the shipping to the facility and they send it back for free. The guy said I would be sending it to somewhere in New Jersey. Should I still ask to send it to Irvine? Are they better with repairs or something?

I think you will be fine with sending it to the nearest facility. Less travel time the better. Maybe you want to drive it there :)

You've had this lens for just two weeks? Why not take it back to the retailer and get another?
