I'm gonna take the next step but the big question is which one. At first I was sold on the 100 - 400 BUT then I started thinking...............the 35 - 350 might be a good choice. What do you guys think?

If you can identify what your subject is, or what your priorities are, you can get some good lens advice.

From everything I've heard the 100-400 is better than the 35-350, in everything but range. And it's so easy to carry a smaller 28-75 or something similar.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

sorry 'bout that...............I've been too busy wiping the drool off my chin and thought I put that in.

#1 use (90%) will be "outdoors wildlife"

#2 use (10%) basketball arena

the 100 - 400 with the IS feature I think would be a GREAT help (I'm old and shakey)

Wildlife... almost always the longer the better. And you're right about the IS - it can be very handy.

Hello! :)

Captured the 10-27-04 Lunar Eclipse and the Thunderbirds Air Show Performance! All Handheld w\Image Stabalization... A Life Saver! Check my WWW link Below to see what the 100-400L Capabilities are! I'm a Newbie to DSLR, so the Equipment Potential Certainly Helped to Pull it Off!!!

Love the 100-400L and Glad I Spent my $$$ on it and Not the 20D!

Good Luck!

The 100-400mm lens is simply what I call my wildlife lens.

Outdoors wildlife? I can't see why you would want to use under 100mm for any outdoor wildlife, the 200-400 range would be all you need even with a 1.6x crop D-SLR. Conclusion: 100-400 is the best lens for this.

Basketball arena? The longer the better! Conclusion: 100-400 is the best lens for this.

Unless there is some other photography that you didn't mention I think that the 35-350 is not really worth considering here. It isn't faster or better on image quality or lighter, what can it offer really?
