I'm gonna take the next step but the big question is which one. At first I was sold on the 100 - 400 BUT then I started thinking...............the 35 - 350 might be a good choice. What do you guys think?

And it's so easy to carry a smaller 28-75 or something similar. You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

And you're right about the IS - it can be very handy. You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

I can't see why you would want to use under 100mm for any outdoor wildlife, the 200-400 range would be all you need even with a 1.6x crop D-SLR. Conclusion: 100-400 is the best lens for this.
