Ok, i have a 5d and 1DMkII and get a little tired of carrying around two cameras. I've used the search function on the forums and find a lot of 5D vs 1DMKIII threds, but no side by side comparisons for high ISO capabilities.

Anyone have a few I could see? I'd really appreciate it.

High ISO's would be the best cause that's what I'm really looking at.

the mark III does iso 6400 and the 5d doesn't..............

I was contemplating on a 1D2 and 5D combo for the 1D2's ergonomics and speed and the 5D's ISO capabilities.

After reading about and putting the 1D3 to the test I realized it was the best of both worlds in the respects valued by me. It's the same price as both bodies but it performs, so unless you really need two bodies I would go with the 1D MkIII for ISO performance.

A while ago I did some comparisons (sadly I don't have the pics anymore). But when you downsize the 5D files to the size of the 1D3 files there isn't really a difference in noise handling. Both are about equal and excellent.

That's what I'm doing at this moment actually. I currently have the 1DmkII and 5D, both are fantastic cameras, but at this stage in my life I do not need a 2nd body right now. I'm in process of a trade for a mkIII in place of my 5D and 1DmkII bodies.

I look forward to shooting with the mkIII, I think it's the perfect camera for me.

I don't have both, I have the MKII, not th MK III.

I understand that they have comparable IQ, I just wish there was a thred with some side by side examples.

I love my 5D, but I love the FPS and rugged build of my 1D MK II

Oh the humanity!

It's not easy being a gear-head. I know I suffer from GAS all the time. ;)

If you need the FPS and weather sealing then take the 1D with you...
If you don't need the speed or weather proofing and love your 5D then take that...
Sometimes it's an advantage to have two bodies with different focal length lenses attached... Saves struggling to change lenses quickly at a important and hectic time...

I haven't bothered to update the results of my tests that I did with the 5D vs the 1DMKII with the MKIII cameras that I have now. You can see each ISO available for the 5D here (external link). I did a gallery of comparing the 5D vs the 1DMKII and it can be found found here (external link). The MKIII's I find to be better than the MKII so I didn't see the need to do this and I was really just doing them for myself anyway.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
