OK, so I have my Tamron lens, and I finally got around to doing some test pictures for those of you considering the lens, and also to get some thoughts on the quality of my copy of the lens. Below are some test shots from the lens. More pictures, along with complete EXIF info, can be found here (external link).

All pictures were taken on a tripod with a 10 second shutter delay, and none of the images were post-processed in any way. They were only resized for the web. The focus point for all photos was in between the two "NN"s in the DANNON title.

It looks like you got yourself a good copy there!

And from the 100% crops, that Tamron actaully looks sharper.

I find the sharpness of the two crops to be very similar.

Best wishes,
Oleg.

I did some similar tests recently and got the same results. I found the sharpness on the 50mm to be a tiny bit better at f2.8, but about the same at around f/5.6 and f/8, and in my case the color and contrast was actually a little better on the Tamron.

I thought the Tamron looked a little sharper as well, which really confused me. Maybe I have a bad copy of the Canon 50mm?
